With warmer weather on the way, many of us will be keen to go swimming, fishing and boating outdoors.
Unfortunately, injury and even drownings can occur around beaches, rivers, lakes and swimming pools. Royal Life Saving South Australia has created a ‘Make the Right Call’ campaign to raise awareness about keeping our families and communities safe when in, on and around water.
To stay safe, remember these important tips:
- Remain close to friends and family, regardless of their experience or age – never leave anyone alone.
- Wear a lifejacket when fishing on boats and jet-skis – lifejackets save lives.
- Do not use alcohol or drugs when you are near water – they can affect both your thinking and your reactions, which can lead to drowning.
- Learn to swim and practise water safety skills to keep yourself and others safe by knowing what to do in a drowning emergency.

We want to ensure that everyone can enjoy a fun and safe summer along our coastal and inland waterways.
