Things might be feeling a bit different this festive season, with many of Adelaide’s favourite summer events and activities cancelled or postponed.
Neighbourhood gatherings can help to bring local communities together and offer everyone a chance to meet the people who live around them.
We want to encourage and support our community to host small local celebrations to mark the arrival of the festive season and summer. So we’re providing vouchers to help you purchase supplies for your celebration, and we can even help arrange road closures and insurance for neighbourhood gatherings on the street.
A neighbourhood gathering is for up to 100 people and is held in a public space like a local park or garden, footpath or on the street with appropriate closures in place. Gatherings should be free and not include the sale of food.
Every year, a group of Exeter residents have a Christmas Eve get together to sing carols, exchange small gifts and take a moment of out their busy end of year schedules to reconnect. Everyone on the street is invited, from the oldest resident, 90 year old musician Ray, to the newest residents who arrived during 2020.
For the group, it’s the chance to experience the true spirit of Christmas through the sharing of music, stories and good cheer. This is exactly the type of event we are seeking to support right across the City of PAE!
