Community Library Outreach Officer Amy has been with the City of PAE Libraries for just over 12 months.
Working for the Libraries has allowed Amy to combine her love of reading with her passion for helping and supporting the community.
An animal lover, Amy has a degree in Animal Science and previously worked at the Animal Welfare League. After four and a half years and with a heavy heart, she knew it was time for a career change.
Amy decided to explore her interest in books and media and found herself studying Librarianship. Now Amy drives the Library van all across the City of PAE delivering books, CDs, DVDs and puzzles to the homes of residents who qualify for the service.
With the impact of COVID-19 still being felt throughout the community, it is more important than ever to have a regular service that allows residents to feel connected and less isolated.
Carmel from Enfield is a regular Home Library customer and receives a visit from Amy every two weeks. Carmel’s family has grown up and moved out, so she spends her days reading the books that Amy carefully selects for her.
“I just love the selection and service” she said upon receiving the latest bundle of books Amy has prepared. Another customer, Robert from Broadview says “I appreciate the CDs and I’m happy with the selections. She brings me World Music, Jazz, Blues and Inspirational. It’s really great”.
Amy further adds to the personalised service by reading books and studying subjects she wouldn’t ordinarily but does this so that she can better understand what her customers might like.
When Amy isn’t on the road or reading, she loves to spend time knitting and listening to music with ex-hearing dog Socks and adopted cats Taylor Purkins and DC.
